ITANAGAR, Dec 13: The 40th School Week Celebration of government higher secondary school Doimukh began today with colourful note. The celebration was declared open by the deputy director of school education (DDSE) Papum Pare T.T Tara in presence of Land Revenue and Survey Officer Techi Hitler. Speaking on the occasion, Tara advised the students to work hard to excel in their studies. He also stressed on the importance of the discipline in the school.

ITANAGAR, Dec 13: The 2nd Tirap Half Marathon was a roaring success in terms of participation and the message it carried.
Altogether 672 participants took part in the race in 5 categories. The professionals, armed forces and open to men ran upto Longo village about 18 km from Khonsa. In this category Dinesh Kumar 26 Madras Regiment bagged the first prize while Thyagraj also of 26 Madras Regiment won the second position and the third prize was won by G. Anjaneyulu of the same Regiment.
In the open to all men’s category Taisa Wangnowham came first while Talai Josaiham came second and the third prize was won by Chailai Wangsa.

12th Tang Memorial Football at Pasighat from Jan 5
ITANAGAR, Dec 13: The 12th Tadar Tang Memorial State Level Football Championship will be held in Pasighat, East Siang District from January five, 2013, informed Arunachal Pradesh Football Association general secretary G Doke.
It is pertaining to mention here that Education Minister Bosiram Siram had proposed to conduct the state’s most prestigious football tournament at Pasighat in the inaugural function of the last edition of the tournament in September last at RG Stadium, Naharlagun.

8 houses gutted, relief distributed
SEPPA, Dec 13: Eight dwelling houses and three gumtis were gutted in a devastating fire at Rajabapak Colony, Seppa yesterday midnight at around 1 am.
Deputy Commissioner Tope Bam rushed to the accident site today and provided Rs 2700 each to the victims.

Taking a dig at the Congress, Gadkari alleged that despite supreme sacrifices made by over 4000 army personnel in the 1962 war, the party in power at the state and the Centre failed to recognize their contribution to the nation and did not bother to remember them.

ITANAGAR, Dec 13: The sportspersons of North East are also capable of competing against the world’s best, said Member of Parliament Takam Sanjoy while inaugurating the 7th National Shotokan Karate Do Championship at Naharlagun today.
“There is no dearth of talents in the region but need to create and provide the right opportunities to the sportspersons,” Sanjoy said while citing example of Manipuri pugilist Mary Kom, who won a boxing medal in the London Olympics. The state government has accorded top priority to sports. It has adopted a pragmatic sports policy for all round development of games and sports sector in the state, Sanjoy said. Informing that Arunachal Pradesh Government’s 10 per cent job reservation policy for sportspersons in police department is the highest in the entire country, Sanjoy advised the young players to avail the opportunity by excelling in their chosen events. . “Perform well; you do not need to chase job; job will chase you,” he said.
Sanjoy, who also is the president of Arunachal Pradesh Football Association, stressed the need for players to maintain strict discipline as no one would succeed in life without maintaining discipline. Sanjoy also advised them to be obedient to their parents and teachers.
Meanwhile, the MP expressed grave concern over drug menace in eastern districts, including East Siang and alleged gun culture in some pockets of the state. He said that drug addiction is also spreading its ugly tentacles into some areas of the Capital Complex which is a matter of serious concern. AIKF’s door is always open for Arunachal karate, he said and assured the parent body’s all help and cooperation for further development of the sport. He also advised the players to regularly participate in tournaments to hone skills and learn new techniques. Lifter Jimjang breaks 7-
ITANAGAR, Dec 13: Arunachalee weightlifter Jimjang Deru broke three national records in 50 kg weight category in the 8th Youth National Weightlifting Championship at Nehru Stadium, New Delhi yesterday. He broke the previous record of Sukhen Dey set in 2005 during Bhilai Youth National Weightlifting Championships by lifting one kg more weight.
It is pertaining to mention here that Dey was the lone Indian male weightlifter in 2012 London Olympics.
Deru lifted a total of 193 kg (snatch 86 kg + Clean and Jerk 107 kg) to win three gold medals.
Earlier, Yukar Sibi set up a National record in the men's 62kg category by lifting 151kg in the clean and jerk in the 63rd men's and 26th women's senior National weightlifting championships in 2011.
Initially Deru was given Judo training by Yum Panku, Judo Coach of Sange Laden Sports Academy, Chimpu. Later, he was picked by Army Sports Institute, Pune in a sport talent hunt and nurtured and coached in weightlifting discipline. Other lifters participating in the championships are Gungte Yangfo, Langfu Roman, Sambo Lapung, Khang Kang Kong khang and Lalu Taku. Top lifters, including Sibi, Soram Hitlar Tagru and Kojum Taba could not take part due to injuries.
The team is being led by Coach Premita Devi.
Meanwhile, Arunachal Weightlifting Association president Abraham K Techi, on behalf of AWA and his own behalf, congratulated Deru, his team of coaches for the outstanding performance. Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, State administration of Arunachal Pradesh approached the Ramakrishna Sarada Mission authorities to open an educational centre to disseminate knowledge and culture, to raise the status of the tribal women of Arunachal Pradesh and to improve their standard of living in the year 1972. The School was formally inaugurated on the 17th February 1973.

Villagers accuse PGCI of keeping public in dark

TEZU, Dec 13: The Telluliang Village Welfare Society has accused the Power Grid Corporation of India of forcefully occupying their land under the guise of Reserve Forest, and have alleged that the landowners are not being entitled for any land compensation on that ground.
In a letter to the district administration, the villagers further alleged that the company has unlawfully erected their concrete pillar post in the agricultural field causing loss of property and crops.
As per the government Notification No. FOR. 80/77 dated 10/08/1978, 100 hectares was excluded for the Telluliang village from the purview and ambit of the Udiomajam Reserve Forest (RF), said the letter.
Also Telluliang was officially declared a village in the year 2002 and inaugurated by Mukut Mithi, former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, it added.
“The construction are being undertaken without the prior consent or permission of the landowners causing impingement of the right of the landowners,” said the society.
The villagers have accused the Power Grid Corporation of keeping the public in dark in connivance with the district administration and forest department convening meetings without any prior distribution of any circular in this respect. Instead, the villagers alleged that the meeting regarding land acquisition was held at Nepali Basti, despite Teluliang being the affected village.
The villagers have now resolved that they will not allow the Power Grid Corporation to carry out any activities in the village and that they will not part away even an inch of their land without fair compensation.

ITANAGAR, Dec 13: The 6th Foundation Day of the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) was celebrated at Conference Hall of Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum here today.

DHO Office from HDO Office Basar which is 700 meter above sea level (asl). I looked
towards North i.e the beautiful valley of Bam village. I imagined for a while. This
was the place where people from Basar town and nearby villages confluenced in the
only cinema hall of the subdivision in early 1960s. My eyes glanced at Bam check
post (Richi) where I demonstrated Banana and pineapple garden under ATMA program
to farmers. Bam checkpost is the junction of Aalo-
This story was often narrated by my father (Marto Bam) in presence of all family members many years ago. My father told that something was written on a piece of paper; it was inserted in a bottle and kept inside soil by digging.
Then I started moving by my Santro. I crossed Bam Checkpost within 15 minute. After

After 15 minute Aalo view is reached and then Sports Complex. Another few minutes’ drive, Darka village and then the famous RK Mission School is reached. Some of my friends at Basar Hr Sec School were from RK Mission. True to its ideal and reputation this institution has given bureaucrats, technocrats, businessmen and public leaders. In recognition of its yeoman service to AP, I visited Belur Math in 2000 when I was pursuing M.Sc (Flori & Landscaping) in BCKV, W.B. after 8 yrs of service as HDO. As a mark of reverence, and personally being vibrate I had invoked slokas in social and official gathering on several occasions. I halted at Aalo for a night. I started at 6 am for Yingkiong on 24.10.12 by boarding
a Tata Sumo. After an hour’s journey, I reached Sangam Bridge. Here the Yomgo River
being gentle and deep blue slowly mingles to Siang River just 200m ahead. This Sangam
area is bounded by 3 villages-
After an hour’s journey, I reached Geku, East Siang. It is a beautiful valley with
much scope for growth. Scenic beauty, gentle slopes, flat lands, evergreen forests
all around, majestic Siang and left bank places is its major features. NV School,
proposed model college, KVK centre, EAC office, High School etc and new settlements
are in the heart of the town. All weather road connectivity is its scoring point
over other interior places. After half an hour journey, I asked one fellow passenger.
“Where is former chief minister G.Apang’s village”. She pointed towards left bank
and showed Karko village. Immediately I saluted 3 times from my heart. One salute
for his being CM for nearly quarter of a century from my class v till I wrote an
application to him for assigning me a Joint Director ( Urban Beautification/Horticulture)
post in 2006 on strength of my 15 yrs as HDO and being 1st PG in Floriculture & Landscaping
in NE India. Now by Grace, I am 1st M.Phil(Pomology)2008-

Diabetes in India
According to a recent report of the International Diabetes Federation India has 6.13 crore people living with diabetes, second only to China. Nearly 60 per cent of diabetics in India have never been screened or diagnosed due to lack of awareness. IDF shows that a staggering 62.6 per cent of the people in India are not even aware about the complications of the disease. By 2030, India's diabetes burden is expected to cross the 100 million mark as against 87 million earlier estimated. China has 90 million people suffering from diabetes in 2011 and is expected to touch the figure of about 130 million by the year 2030.
Such a high numbers of undiagnosed cases means people are putting their lives at risk from diabetes complications such as nerve disease, which can lead to ulceration and amputation of limbs. This spread of awareness will empower them to defeat diabetes through prevention and management, an expert feels.
Diabetes over a long term affects all organs of the body and is linked to heart attacks, stroke, some cancers and several infections, said Prof K Srinath Reddy, President of the Public Health Foundation of India. He said despite all the good intent, India’s national programme on diabetes has not progressed and can claim only limited success to its credit, which is why there is a need to explore innovative models for tackling this disease.

An open letter to PWD and Finance Minister
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily and in the most popular "Reader's forum column" I want to bring to the notice of the minister finance and the esteemed readers of the agony, frustrations and the miseries faced by the poor farmers of East Siang, Upper Siang and West Siang districts of our state.
That, in the whole state, the above mentioned three districts has inherited the dignity of life from their great forefathers by way of hard work indulging in Agriculture by toiling and moiling out their sweat to lead a life of abundance in food grains and other Horticulture products.
The farmers of these three districts produce so much of Food grains, Ginger and Mandarin (Orange) in huge quantity and quality and this way they have employed themselves, educated their children’s and lead a life with dignity since ages till date.
By the grace of almighty this also is a year of abundance and good harvest for Ginger, Vegetables and Orange products. All the Agriculture and Horticulture products are transported from the fields and brought down to Pasighat town for sale in the local market and outside buyers, the net value of the business which runs into crores every year. Inspite of the Cunning and Notorious middlemen eating the cream of the sweat and blood of the poor hardworking farmers, the farmers are satisfied with their fate and helplessness even when Department of Agriculture and Deptt of Horticulture with so many agencies/bodies in the likes of the non functional APMC and ATMA are in existent by wasting so much of Public money meaninglessly. The Farmers are in fact, made to believe that these departments and agencies are the instead, commission agents of the so called Cunning and Notorious Middlemen. Adding to the misery of the poor farmers this season despite good harvest of cash crops, there is no road to transport it to Pasighat market for selling the produce. The embankment of the bridge at Sideng River near Rottung village was completely washed away in this year’s monsoon season some six months back.
Due to which a load of two tonnes are only possible to be carried by a Pickup truck,
whereas the hire charge for a two tonne load and Ten tonne load is almost the same,
which are really making the Farmer's lose out so much. But the fact is that if PWD
was sincere enough to think for the welfare of the people especially the poor farmers,
with an investment amount of approximately just Rs. 1,00000/-

Wrong People in Right Place?
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed column I would like to share a few words in regards to Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC). It is known from a reliable source that after conducting the Viva voice examination of APPSC 2012, a candidate who has not opted for the post of CDPO was awarded as a CDPO. But later on another candidate came to know the fact, and filed a case in the Honorable high court of Gauhati, Naharlagun bench. After the interference of court the candidate was appointed as CDPO, the first candidate has only opted for those APPSC entry grade. It is well known rule that a candidate who does not qualify for his/her own choice of post is automatically out of the race. Now my question is how come the APPSC had awarded the post of CDPO to a candidate who hasn’t opted for it? They had been recruiting for several years and how come such irresponsible results come up? Are they really fit to be member of APPSC? This blunder works of APPSC levels down their own motto, “Talent search is our Motto”. If you happen to make any enquiry, a blonde long hair an APPSC male member would greet you with his favorite sentence, go to the court, the court is there for you. This type of harsh and arrogant statement does not fit the motto of APPSC. It is my sincere request to APPSC members not to be harsh or arrogant because we the young people could easily get influence you seniors. We are not the one to teach manners but we expect teaching manners from well experience elders like you all. Regarding the appointment of CDPO the second candidate deserves it. The blunder work of APPSC had made me confused that which is right, wrong people in the right place or right people on the wrong place.

“Who will bell the Cat?”
Dear Editor,
In this land where guns are mightier than the pen and entrusted SIT chiefs enact disappearing acts, let us watch with abated breath, who bells the cat? In a land ruled by morons, one can't expect much from courts and charge sheets filed. News items that carry headings like PDS have become mundane topics as people like me have accustomed ourselves to predict the likely outcome. Every remote chance of an interesting outcome is marred by unpleasant events where bold and outspoken scribes either get shot or are manhandled. The case has been dragged long enough and I am certain the remaining voices have been muffled either with multicolored minted bank notes or with metallic barrels.
